It’s been almost exactly a year since the pandemic infiltrated our lives and, well, houseplants are sort of a one-way relationship. So it makes sense that, according to the ASPCA, the number of people volunteering to foster dogs in Los Angeles and New York doubled during covid lockdowns.

If you’ve recently become a puppy parent, congratulations! You’ve likely landed here (in very good hands, IMO) looking for the perfect name for your sweet lil furbaby. Honestly, there’s a lot to consider and this name could determine your doggo’s entire identity—so the pressure is on! I gotchu.

Let’s start with the basics. Like baby names, pet names tend to go in and out of style. Some of the most popular names right now include Emma, Lucy, Sadie, Coco, Bailey, Champ, Cooper, Duke, Lucky, Marley, Moose, Rocky, Scout, and Teddy, according to the American Kennel Club’s 2021 list. Fun fact: Food and drink names are especially ~trendy~ right now. So expect to meet a “Mocha” or “Dumpling” in the neighborhood.

You could go with those popular picks, or you can sample a slew of other names for your new pup below. If your baby is all bark and no bite, perhaps the introductory badass category will do the trick. I’m partial to the cottagecore category: Flora or Willow, anyone? And if your pup has one of those bizarrely human-like faces maybe Kevin or Brian feels fitting. Scroll on, pick out the perfect one!
