The Best Dog-Friendly Bars in Every State (and D.C., Too)
A cold beer in one hand, your dog in another—now that’s a little slice of heaven. Good thing that no matter where in the U.S. you live (or travel), there’s a dog-friendly spot for you. One note: Many states have legislation against dogs in establishments serving food, which is why you’ll see tons of breweries on here. But, have no fear! Every spot listed loves dogs.

Alabama: Good People Brewing Company
Since 2010, this Parkside District brewpub in Birmingham has been serving up some of the best beer in the Southeast. Dogs are welcome on the patio (as is outside food and friendly cornhole games), and Railroad Park is nearby if Wrigley needs to run around after you’ve had your fill.
Alaska: Anchorage Brewing Company
If you like IPAs, experimental beers (like a sour blueberry beer made with handpicked Alaskan blueberries) and hanging out with your dog, Anchorage Brewing Company is your best bet.
Arizona: Sleepy Dog Brewing
When a brewery honors canines by naming its business and beers after them, you know it must. Love. Dogs. Sip on a Wet Snout Peanut Butter Stout or a Tail Chaser IPA as you submit Scorpion’s headshot for Sleepy Dog’s “dog of the month” series on social media.
Arkansas: Bark Bar
This Little Rock establishment used to be a mission-style church. Today, pet parents can get an annual membership ($200) or a day pass ($7) to enjoy hot dogs, popsicles and booze (for people) and doggie ales, sundaes and treats (for canines). Be sure to either upload or bring proof of vaccinations to get in!
California: The Morrison Pub
This pub has won tons of awards, including one of the top pet-friendly restaurants in Los Angeles by the LA Times and Best Dog-Friendly Restaurant in the country by USA Today. Sip a craft cocktail while Martha chows down on some chicken and rice from the dog menu.
Colorado: Watering Bowl
Stop by the Watering Bowl in Denver for Yappy Hour (4 to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends) for drink specials with your dog. There’s a 7,000-square-foot dog park (fenced in, of course) plus two patios, each with their own bar.
Connecticut: Captain Scott’s Lobster Dock
It doesn’t get any more East Coast than lobster. Located right on the water in New London, this place is known for its seafood and outdoor seating. Grab a lobster roll, your dog and soak up the fresh sea air on the patio.
Delaware: Dogfish Head Brewery
This popular Milton spot allows dogs in the brewery tasting room area (though, like most breweries, not on the tours). Check out the 2019 Beer Release Calendar, which lets patrons know when specific brews will become available.
Florida: Boozehounds and BrewHound
Brand new this year, Boozehounds in Orlando and BrewHound in Neptune Beach are actually dog parks with bars in them (no complaints here). Both will offer day passes, monthly memberships and annual memberships that will allow access to a bar, a no leash dog park, and a ton of fun stuff for humans and dogs alike.

Georgia: Fetch Park and Ice House
In Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward neighborhood sits (and stays) Fetch Park and Ice House, a bar-dog park hybrid. Watch TV or surf the Wi-Fi as you sip a drink and Brave meets new friends. Again, day passes and memberships are available depending on what you need.
Hawaii: Aloha Beer Company
Paradise is beer and dogs, right? That’s what we’re learning? Perfect. Grab an expertly crafted brew at the Aloha Beer Company in Kaka’ako on O’ahu in the heart of Hawaii’s historic beer district (yes, a historic beer district).
IDAHO: LAUGHING DOG BREWING
As you might expect, Laughing Dog in Ponderay values canines and having fun. Plus a portion of their sales goes to the Panhandle Animal Shelter! So, sit by the fire with Potato and sip one of their many award-winning brews, like the best-selling Huckleberry Cream Ale.
Illinois: Begyle Brewing
Chicago is full of brewpubs, but this one is dog-friendly and offers up board games, yoga events, food trucks and—drumroll, please—a skeeball machine. Bring your dollar bills and your dog.
Indiana: Peace Water Winery
A winery! We were pumped to find a spot dedicated to grape-based drinks after reading so much about all the hops these breweries have to offer. With locations in both Carmel and Indianapolis, there’s plenty of patio space for you, Hoosier and rosé.
Iowa: Exile Brewing
The building used to be a soap factory and the dude who started it all emigrated to the U.S. from Italy at the age of nine. Exile Brewing in Des Moines loves dogs, great beer and good stories.
Kansas: Defiance Brewing Company
The town of Hays is home to Defiance Brewing, a taproom and brewpub that proudly dubs itself a producer of “ambitious beer.” Dogs are allowed! Food trucks abound!
Kentucky: Old Louisville Brewery
There are always dogs around at Old Louisville Brewery in—you guessed it—Louisville. There’s a lawn out back and a mango-infused blonde ale. So…get there.
Louisiana: Miel Brewery and Taproom
This microbrewery sells homemade dog treats made from spent grain used to brew beer. There’s a beautiful outdoor beer garden and the focus is on local ingredients and environmental consciousness.
Maine: The Porthole
With daily drink specials, tons of live music events, and a location in Portland right on the water, The Porthole is an ideal party spot for dog lovers.
Maryland: West Madison Craft Beer Bar
Upscale street food, classic cocktails and a dog-friendly attitude make this Mt. Vernon hot spot a must-visit. Come for the happy hour, stay because you’re well-behaved (and the food is really good).
Massachusetts: Trillium Brewing Company
Head to Canton or Fort Point to experience a beautiful dog-friendly brewery (there are also pop-up locations around town, so track them on social media). Choose from tons of unique beers—or wine and cold brew coffee if beer isn’t your thing. It also has a rooftop opening later this year.
Michigan: Grizzly Peak Brewing Company
As one the best brewpubs in Ann Arbor, Grizzly Peak offers delicious food, great beer and a dog menu with drool-worthy dishes. The pub also donates a portion of the proceeds to the Humane Society of Huron Valley. Yum!
Minnesota: Stanley’s
Did someone say three-course canine menu? Stanley’s in Northeast Minneapolis did! This place even has heaters on the outdoor patio in the winter for dogs. Pups also get a homemade “Nilla Woofer” and water with each visit.
Mississippi: Shaggy’s
There’s one in Biloxi (right on the beach!) and several other locations around the state, too. Shaggy’s is perfect for a family with a dog looking for a place with oysters, cheeseburgers and drink specials.
Missouri: Bar K Dog Bar
Surrounded by two acres of dog park and the Missouri River sits Bar K, a bar, restaurant and coffee shop fashioned out of a few reclaimed shipping containers. Purchase an annual membership or a guest pass for a day. Let your dog jump on play structures or leash him for a subdued cocktail on the rooftop.
Montana: MAP Brewing
Bozeman’s best spot for award-winning craft beers is MAP Brewing, and it has a spectacular view of the mountains. Grab a Guava Sour (seasonal) beer and some smoked salmon dip and kick back with Cowboy to take in the scene.
Nebraska: Benson Brewery
Benson Brewery lives in a renovated movie theater in Omaha and serves up comfort food made with local ingredients. Bring your dog to the beer garden or patio area for delicious grub and craft beers.
Nevada: Park on Fremont
Bring Elvis along for some major patio time at this hipster haven in Sin City. Sure, you could order a salad, but maybe get the Garbage Fries (loaded with—among other things—cheese, bacon, jalapeños and a fried egg) for the table at least.
New Hampshire: Smuttynose Brewing
Hampton’s Smuttynose Brewing has won tons of awards for its unique craft brews, but it’s still humble enough to welcome dogs on the patio (and with you while you shop in the retail store). Try the Old Brown Dog ale and don’t miss Snouts Out Sunday, an event celebrating dogs and local vendors.
New Jersey: The Wonder Bar
Sniffing butts is encouraged during Yappy Hour as this Asbury Park bar, which means they really understand canines. There are even designated times for large and small dogs. The play area is fenced in so you can observe your pup as you sit at the bar with a beer.
New Mexico: Marble Brewery
For a brewery that creates “unabashedly bold beer” and urges brewmasters to experiment, it’s no surprise they love dogs on their patio. There are three Albuquerque locations and about 16 beers from which to choose.
New York: Ballyhoo
Buffalo has tons of dog-friendly options, but the cocktails at Ballyhoo really caught our eye. All the classics (negronis, mai tais, whiskey sours) and original concoctions. Plus, they have homemade sausage, which we’re sure Bratwurtz will also appreciate.
North Carolina: The Dog Bar
Let Banksy roam free outdoors on turf with a misting system on hot days or indoors in a climate-controlled area. There’s an annual membership fee of $10, which is much less expensive than some of the membership venues on our list. Only drinks are served, but please order some takeout!
North Dakota: Wurst Bier Hall
With locations in both Fargo and West Fargo, Wurst Bier Hall welcomes pups of all kinds. It’s not a brewery, but it does offer up 41 local beers and tons of mouthwatering German fare.
Ohio: 16-Bit Bar+Arcade
Forget adulting. Head to this barcade in Cincinnati with your pup to play Street Fighter II and drink a liquid Lisa Frank (Tito’s, watermelon pucker, pineapple rum, fruit punch, Airhead rainbow sour belt). There are over 50 games and a mocktail list for anyone intent on beating the reigning Donkey Kong record.
Oklahoma: The Pump Bar
Fair warning: If you bring your dog to Oklahoma City’s Instagram-worthy Pump Bar, be ready to pose with your pup and a gorgeous cocktail and tag #pumppups (it’s a thing). It’s a fun spot with a retro tiki vibe.
Oregon: White Owl Social Club
Bring Roomba to this restaurant and bar for environmentally conscious fare (no beef or lamb), strong drinks and a fire pit. Pair the Ol’ Battle-Ax (an Aquavit-based cocktail) with an Impossible (meat-free) burger while your pup gets some exercise on the patio.
Pennsylvania: Evil Genius Beer Company
This Philly spot is the ideal combination of laid-back, bustling and pup-friendly. Bring your dog to chill on the patio while you slurp the unique Red Wine Hazy IPA.
Rhode Island: Whalers Brewing Company
At the World Beer Awards in 2017 and 2018, the Rise brew took home the award for best IPA. Last year it were voted best brewery in the state by Rhode Island Monthly. Oh and, duh, you can bring your dog as you drink out on the patio.
South Carolina: Red’s Ice House
Situated on Shem Creek in Mt. Pleasant, this divey, wily bar serves up local seafood and has been voted best waterfront bar and outdoor patio by Charleston City Paper readers for years. Bring your dog and follow Red’s on Facebook for tons of info on pup-centric events it host.
South Dakota: Fernson Brewing
Sioux Falls’ Fernson Brewing offers up live music and plenty of space for dogs to roam free. Try the Blood Orange Hibiscus IPA with some carne asada tacos for the ultimate experience. Maybe drop a little for Ghost to clean up? Don’t make him beg.
Tennessee: 12 South Taproom
Nashville’s 12 South Taproom offers up organic food grown locally and a wide array of beers and libations. There’s live music (it wouldn’t be Nashville without live music) and plenty of space on the patio for furry friends.
Texas: Yard Bar
Beyond the bar, there’s an off-leash area for dogs to roam wild. Passes are offered in one-day, five-day, monthly and annual increments at this Austin spot. Order up some dog-friendly “beer,” ice cream and treats alongside your own craft cocktails or wine on draft.
Utah: A. Fisher Brewing Company
In the Granary District, dog owners can set up shop on the brewery patio at A. Fisher. There’s a stellar rotating cast of food trucks, board games to play and always something new brewing.
Vermont: Citizen Cider
Breweries abound, but what about…cideries? This Burlington spot makes some of the most popular cider in the country and is super dog-friendly. Stop by for “Hot dog and a can” Thursdays.
Virginia: Keswick Vineyards
Since 2007, Keswick Vineyards wines have won major awards for tasting incredible. It’s got a fenced-in dog park, too, which means you can sip a robust 2017 Touriga while Grape gets some exercise.
Washington: Norm’s Eatery & Ale House
Norm’s, in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle, is all about dogs! In fact, if you don’t like dogs (and you’re somehow still reading), don’t go here. On top of the human menu full of traditional bar fare, there’s a dog menu with marrow bones and turkey nuggets, to name a few of the delicacies Starbuck can enjoy.
West Virginia: Mountain State Brewing Company
With locations in Bridgeport, Morgantown or Thomas (and Deep Creek Lake, Maryland), you can enjoy a beer with your pup by your side. Maybe Westie can even help you out with trivia or bingo events at each of the taproom locations.
Wisconsin: Capital Brewery
Capital Brewery in Middleton not only brews award-winning beer, it gives back to the local Humane Society and focuses on sustainability (solar panels, anyone?). Bring your dog to the Bier Garten for an afternoon (then pop back in later for some brew and flow yoga).
Wyoming: Accomplice Beer Company
Inside Cheyenne’s historic depot is this popular brewery serving up delicious grub in a family- and pet-friendly zone. Try the Nunya Beeswax Belgian Honey Amber Ale because it sounds funny.
Washington, D.C.: Dacha Beer Garden
Bask underneath a mural of Liz Taylor in this Shaw neighborhood locale with your beloved pup. Sip on beer or draft cocktails and before you know it, you might even adopt a new dog—in May, Dacha will host a Pups & Brunch Adoption Event for anyone in the market for a new BFF.
