What to look for in cooling sheets
Most experts agree that the optimal fabrics for cooling sheets are made from natural fibers like cotton or linen because they don’t absorb and store heat. But Chris Winter, MD, sleep specialist and host of the Sleep Unplugged podcast, said, “Many cooling fabrics are synthetic, much like cooling or wicking athletic wear.” This can include semi-synthetic materials like Lyocell (otherwise known as Tencel), a type of rayon made from wood, that is highly breathable, and bamboo fabric. It, too, is in the rayon family.
In addition to material makeup, you should also look for sheets that have moisture-wicking properties, as “getting moisture away from your body can make for a more comfortable sleep and cut down on some skin issues,” added Dr. Winter.
