A woman in Ipswich, Mass., went to the Richdale Food Shop on Market Street to purchase a $5 scratch ticket for her husband on his birthday. They, of course, say it’s the thought that counts when it comes to gifts, but now the couple is happily counting their winnings.

The Massachusetts State Lottery’s $1,000,000 Double Jackpot has two chances to win, on the front and back, but it was the backside that made Gjergji Prifti the second $1 million prize winner for the game in the state.

Prifti chose a one-time cash payment of $650,000 before taxes, and $10,000 will go to the Richdale Convenience Store for the sale, according to lottery officials.

The first winner of the $1,000,000 Double Jackpot instant game was crowned on February 26, 2019, to an unidentified winner, who formed the Soul Sunshine Nominee Trust of Rockland to claim the prize, represented by trustee Wayne Gilbert. Some big winners choose to create a revocable trust to maintain their privacy — and, perhaps, to stave off any family or friends who are reaching for a handout.

According to the statement released by lottery officials on Thursday, there are still two $1 million prizes available for the Massachusetts State Lottery’s $1,000,000 Double Jackpot instant game. Of course, the odds of winning the big prize is listed as 1 in 10,080,000, so good luck.
