Say what you want about Ben Affleck, but the man has range—not only as an actor and a respected director, but as a beloved meme. Sometimes, he’s the relatable, tired, guy who needs a cigarette. In other instances? He’s Dunkin' Donuts' biggest fan. But his most familiar expression—one I hold close to my heart—is infamous: dude who just wants to go home.

That particular grimace made its rounds on the Internet once again during the Grammys this year. Affleck appeared to be bored out of his mind, much to Twitter's delight, but in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he set the record straight. “I had a good time at the Grammys,” he insisted. “My wife was going, and I thought, Well, there’ll be good music. It might be fun.” To Affleck’s credit, some parts of the show can get dull, which might explain his (viral) looks of boredom. “At movie award shows, it’s speeches and, like, sound mixing webinars. But I thought this would be fun,” he explained.

As for that widely shared dispute between Affleck and his wife, Jennifer Lopez? Well, that was just nervous panic caught in 4k. Affleck explained that Trevor Noah, the event's host, was approaching their table at the time. This was in-between music performances, when Noah would work the crowd and heckle celebrities in the audience. “I was like, Oh, God,” Affleck said. “They were framing us in this shot, but I didn’t know they were rolling. I leaned into her [Lopez] and I was like, “As soon as they start rolling, I’m going to slide away from you and leave you sitting next to Trevor. She goes, ‘You better fucking not leave.’That’s a husband-and-wife thing.”

Many people saw that moment as a sign of marital trouble, but one observant seat-filler recently swooped in to clear the air. AlmostAnna on TikTok posted a video about her experience sitting near the couple at the Grammys. Her account is now private, but according to Fox News, she said they were “super lovey-dovey,” and their hands were "always intertwined" throughout the evening.

Anna also noted that Affleck looked irritated after Lopez showed him a photo of them that went viral. “JLO showed Ben Affleck the phone and was like, ‘Oh my God, Honey, look at this meme circulating about you.’” Affleck's response? “Oh God, this again.”
