It's been a long and turbulent couple of years for Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, the couple who seem to either be making up or breaking up on the reg. Now, it's official: Affleck and Garner are getting divorced. According to Entertainment Tonight, the couple have officially filed after two years of separation marked by periodic reunions, efforts to go to couple's therapy and work on living together as a family.
Interestingly, Affleck and Garner filed the petition for divorce together, implying that this is the most friendly split and outcome possible. One would certainly hope that after two years of gently test-driving a break-up they would be able part of good terms. There has also been no official statement released from either camp announcing the divorce; we'll have to wait and see what happens next.
The couple announced their separation back in 2015. The announcement came one day after their 10-year anniversary, with Affleck and Garner releasing a joint statement that read: "After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce," read a joint statement from the couple at the time. "We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time."
The amicable nature of their split was present from the very beginning; it's no surprise this official filing appeared amicable. Both actors also sought couples therapy at the beginning of their separation. When Affleck returned from rehab earlier this year, his statement implied that Garner was a pivotal person in his recovery. Now, the pair will officially go their separate ways after many attempts to reconcile. It would seem that they are both in agreement this is the best thing to do and they'll both be able to move forward with their lives.
