Bella Hadid just landed a major fitness contract with Nike and unveiled a giant billboard in NYC. But if certain Instagram commenters have any say, the ad should just go away completely.
“I am OFFICIALLY PART OF THE @NIKE FAMILY! More coming very soon ❤️👟🏁,” Bella announced alongside a photo of herself looking up at the huge campaign image in amazement.
While some Instagram users seized the moment to congratulate her and tell her how proud they are of her, others felt compelled to scold her and the activewear retailer. Specifically, these followers took issue with her body, deeming it unsuitable to represent a fitness brand. “Yeh this is why young girls get eating disorders, when being abnormally thin is glorified,” wrote one upset commenter. “Well done @nike.”
More chimed in, declaring, “Nike? She’s not an athlete but more importantly it’s giving young girls unrealistic expectations yet again. Why not use [Ashley Graham] come on now @NIKE have some sense,” and, “Too thin to represent [a] fitness label I’m quite shocked. Your ribs are almost sticking out.”
Outrage continued with questions from “fans” and mocking statements. “So we’re just gonna sit here and act like dis ok?” another follower asked, while still more chided Bella with, “I love how so many athletic companies are signing models now and not athletes because they know people look up to models more [than] they lookup to people with real talent.”
Interestingly enough, Bella admitted herself that she had lost a little too much weight training for her upcoming first walk down the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show runway.
But she most likely wouldn't agree with the shade she's getting. “I didn’t really mean to [lose weight],” she told People of her workout routine. “Like I want boobs. I want my ass back. But it’s not my fault. My weight fluctuates and so does everybody’s and I think that if people are gonna judge, that’s the worst you can possibly do because everybody is different.
“I worked out so hard and everybody is like, ‘Oh, she looks so skinny blah, blah, blah. But I think that if you just stick to something you can really achieve so much. I’ve been eating hard protein every day, and working out for three hours every day. It’s crazy but I think that you know if you set your mind to something I think you can succeed.”
