How much money does it take to achieve supermodel style? Looks like you don’t have to empty out your savings account or pick quarters out of your couch. In fact, you might already have some of the pieces, such as the classic “cheap white tank,” ready to go in your closet. Look to Bella Hadid, who stepped out yesterday in Los Angeles in a relaxed off-duty look. The model wore a white T-shirt and loose tan pants. For a dollop of runway glam, Hadid carried a Louis Vuitton monogrammed shoulder bag, though for a down-to-earth accent, she clipped her signature plastic hair claw to its strap. Even more low-key: the scuffed black Converse sneakers, which cost a grand total of $50 and only get better with age. In fact, Hadid also has a second pair in white.

Yet one major accessory brought the full outfit together: a New York Yankees baseball cap that was dotted with lips by LaRopa. The humble baseball cap has long been a supermodel favorite, harkening back to the ’90s and early ’00s. (More recently, Gucci showed a luxe take on the hat with a New York Yankees collaboration for their Fall 2018 collection) The baseball cap connotes both ease and elevation: The wearer is confident enough to step out in a casual get-up sans wildly expensive frills. Gisele Bündchen wore an array of hats when she dated fellow cap-lover Leonardo DiCaprio and went to a lot of basketball games. Were you aware that Elle Macpherson was a Red Sox fan? Apparently she was in the beginning of the noughties when she wore the team’s hat while pregnant and strolling around Hyde Park. Naomi Campbell even sported a cheeky hat when she did community service in the mid-2000s.

Best of all, a standard Yankees cap doesn’t come close to breaking the bank. It clocks in at only $25. Call it a fashion home-run.
