Bella Hadid is trying a new hairstyle out for fall: chunky highlights.
The supermodel was spotted leaving a New York City salon on Tuesday, October 6, with brand-new caramel highlights, which are the perfect complement to her chocolate-brown hair.
Hadid was dressed down for the salon, opting for a tank top and basketball-esque lounge pants. The highlights are thick and blocky, serving early 2000s vibes for sure.
Take a look at the photo for yourself, below:
Bella Hadid isn’t the only celebrity to try out chunky highlights this year. Jennifer Lopez flawlessly sported them back in March:
As did Kylie Jenner in June:
This new take on chunky highlights is less drastic than the Christina Aguilera and Kelly Clarkson styles of the early aughts. “When I think chunky highlights, I think of where I grew up on Staten Island in the ’90s and 2000s,” says Stephanie Brown, master stylist at New York’s IGK Salon Soho. “It was terrible but also amazing at the same time. Now it’s a better version and less drastic.”
Hadid has been all about hair experimentation this year. (Haven’t we all? I mean, what else was there to do during quarantine?) In April she played around with gray hair, albeit through a very good filter:
That same month she cut her own bangs, which, again, was very relatable:
The 23-year-old’s hair has been everything from jet black to blonder than her older sister Gigi’s. Brown is her signature color, but it’s not to distinguish herself from Gigi. “Well, I didn’t really dye my hair to separate myself from Gigi,” she told Glamour in August 2016. “I started dyeing my hair when I was 14. I dyed it black and blue, I wore eyeliner—I was a punk kid.”
It seems she’s just very game for changing things up—and these chunky highlights are quite the gorgeous change.
