This past New York Fashion Week, Century 21 and its younger Next Century area in downtown Manhattan were filled with more than only shoppers trying to find a discount. The department store known for its markdowns held youth-drawing events, like a presentation for the recently rebooted clubby Buffalo shoes with a model cast that included rapper Vic Mensa. Last night, the label Barragán by Mexico City–native, New York City–based designer Victor Barragán gave the store another jolt and held a show on its main shopping floor.

Like Barragán’s personal Instagram @ytinifninfinity, which often shows pierced food things and slices of men’s body parts, his clothes also have an erotic tinge. Sometimes, they barely covered anything, like a miniskirt made of silk dyed in pinks and greens, complete with a slit positioned right at the pelvis. Terra-cotta was also the theme of the collection and the clay was rubbed onto the chests and caked into the hair of models. “We started working with terra-cotta out of my own pleasure this season. My friend and I started doing making random pieces [of pottery],” said Barragán after his show. “We planned the pottery to be big and kind of ugly.” He used the earthy ceramic to stain white slouchy denim pants and a jacket. Models also carried hulking pottery pieces, some filled with potted plants. One shirtless model wore a ceramic gourd like a traveling neck pillow as he walked down the runway.

While pottery is a fun addition, Barragán considers it a hobby and is looking more into developing his denim offerings. “I want to make a business out of it!” he said. The denim pants are certainly cool. The silhouette is high-waisted with a slight drop-crotch and tiered side pockets in scooping U shapes. Lebanese cool girl and filmmaker Pam Nasr walked the show and looked quite stellar in a pair of the dark blue jeans and a buttoned-to-the-navel black shirt. Maybe fan of the label Kendall Jenner, who recently stepped out in a cropped off-the-shoulder Barragán top, will try that look out, too.
