Representatives Tom Reed (R-NY) and Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) appeared on CNN Newsroom with Ana Cabrera on Sunday night, guest-hosted by Dana Bash, to talk about President Trump finally signing the COVID-19 relief bill. But Gottheimer’s new puppy was a little overexcited.
Trump originally refused to sign the bill, calling it a disgrace. As Gottheimer spoke about the positives in the bill, his puppy Rosie began to bark incessantly.
Reed smiled as Gottenheimer powered through it, but next time he spoke, Reed quipped, “Well, first you gotta recognize Rosie’s excited. That’s Josh’s dog in the background, so we applaud Rosie’s excitement too.”
Gottenheim announced in an October Facebook post that his family had just gotten Rosie, named for the 1973 Bruce Springsteen classic Rosalita.
Dogs interrupting members of congress during interviews on CNN is becoming a common occurrence. During an interview on CNN Newsroom with Fredricka Whitfield, Rep. Donna Shalala (D-FL) actually got up and walked away to get her barking dog and sat back down while holding him. Unfortunately this time, Rosie was only heard, not seen.
Bash ended the interview telling Gottenheimer to give Rosie a pat on the head.
“I will,” Gottenheimer said. “She’s very excited that the bill was signed into law.”
