While there was a time when the slip dress was considered strictly bedroom — a hidden inner layer normally associated with curlers and fuzzy slippers — the lingerie-inspired frock has shed its pajama moniker to become a bona fide stand-alone dress. The slinky, Victoria's Secret catalog-bound number of the '90s has evolved past adult sleepover jammies. In fact, it's even evolved beyond the Céline and Saint Laurent chemises that kickstarted the trend a few years back. Nowadays, the dress is being reimagined into velvet dinner party frocks (yep, at-home ones too), happy hour attire, and house dresses. It's a four-season buy because you can wear it solo in the summertime, then layered it with a white tee as it got cooler and eventually a giant chunky sweater on top when it's freezing. I come from a family of great cooks, and have always wanted to find my niche in the kitchen. Back in March, when everyone I know started making banana bread, I thought I'd give it a shot. My mom has the best recipe, and there was something seriously satisfying about the whole experience. When my dad asked for pecans in the next loaf, I was so excited to get to bake again, and I haven't stopped since. Since the shelter-in-place order was issued, I have made banana bread, carrot cake, oatmeal raisin cookies, flourless chocolate cake, pineapple upside down cake, and too many more to name. The methodical approach to baking has been an incredible stress reliever. I don't quite understand it, but measuring out the ingredients, following the directions, and having the end product be something delicious is almost unbelievably satisfying. Also, when I'm making my dough, I'm so focused on my dessert that I don't think about anything else, and the mental break has been really amazing during the day. If you need an hour or so of peace and quiet, I highly recommend baking. Plus, the end result is always worth it. Sweatpants and a hoodie might be the quintessential lockdown look, but with the warm weather finally here, it’s clear that we’re all in need of a new 2020 outfit — fast. Though we might not be battling sweltering subway rides or overheated apartments this summer, the change in temperature still calls for a style overhaul, which sadly means putting the heavier joggers to the back of the closet for another year. Don’t panic, we aren’t suggesting going back to normal clothes just yet (who even remembers what jeans feel like?). Instead, we recommend something light, loose and suitably comfortable to see you through sunnier days. The answer? A good ol' fashioned house dress. We aren’t talking about restrictive bodices and heavy fabrics, either: these light and airy and sometimes sustainable creations give your body breathing space as temperatures begin to rise. Whether it's wafting through the kitchen as you bake something wonderful or twirling around the garden as you drink something lovely, the house dress is here to solve all your comfort conundrums. We’ve gathered the best loose-fitting dresses on the market to help you keep cool and comfy as we step into summer, so click through to find your new lockdown frock. Every so often, a dress comes along that people won’t stop wearing. Typically, it’s from Zara, and it’s spotted everywhere for a few weeks before disappearing as quickly as it appeared (see: Zara’s viral polka dot dress). In the case of this year’s viral dress, it isn’t a fast-fashion brand that’s responsible for its creation, nor is it leaving the scene anytime soon. Instead, the 927 dress, an ethereal long-sleeved sheer dress courtesy of Los-Angeles-based indie brand KkCo is only just getting started. On Monday, KkCo’s founder and creative director Kara Jubin (see her advice on how to tie-dye at home here) released an all-new colorway for the popular 927 style. And unlike the neon shades of blue, pink, and orange that came before it, this new offering isn’t based on the latest color trend. Instead, the dress features sheer paneling in four skin tone shades, and is meant to “celebrate unity and showcase the beauty of diversity.”> View this post on Instagram> > Introducing the Nine Twenty-Seven Dress in Four — now available for pre-order We made our favorite dress in four shades of skin tones to celebrate unity and showcase the beauty of diversity. The second look is paired with white socks and black chunky mules.KkCo’s latest version of the 927 dress is made locally in L.A. using Japanese organza and costs $595.
