Years ago, when movie rental stores started to close their doors, it became pretty clear that most of us would never enter a Blockbuster Video again. Fast-forward to 2022, and there appears to be a glimmer of hope for Blockbuster fanatics who long to stroll those VHS-filled aisles once again.
Food & Wine reports that a Blockbuster-themed speakeasy bar will open its doors in Los Angeles later this month. The pop-up is officially licensed by the Blockbuster brand, so attendees can likely expect lots of 90s and early 2000s nostalgia.
Opening on November 19, the speakeasy will serve a number of themed drinks and bites, but in order for patrons to enjoy a true Blockbuster experience they'll have to browse through aisles of movies to select the cocktail they'd like to check out using their membership card (which is a drink ticket).
"Instead of grainy VHS tapes, guests will choose from themed beverages inspired by only the best 90’s and 2000’s movie releases," read an announcement for the pop-up. "Make sure to check out each recipe 'synopsis' on the back before bringing any selection to the checkout counter where a Blockbuster bartender will whip up the libation. The full bar menu will also include throwbacks like Gusher and Yoo Hoo based cocktails, Zima, Vodka & Tab, Crystal Clear Pepsi, Orbitz, and other nostalgic drinks."
For those 21-and-up who'd like to experience the Blockbuster Video-themed bar, you'll need to visit Bucketlisters.com to purchase your ticket. Tickets are $45 each and include two cocktails.
