Like watching football and arguing over The Eagles (the band and the team), New Balance is one of those things that brings fathers and sons together. For a while there—we're talking years ago now, but still—that balance may have seemed pitched toward the "dads" side of the spectrum. But now, thanks in part to a string of successful collaborations, everyone from Zoomers to Boomers has a stake in the New Balance universe. Just picture it: Parent and child staring into one another's eyes before throwing a sharp elbow as they vie for the last pair of 998s on the shelf. A beautiful sight.

The generations will have a new shoe to battle over this summer: a riff on the CRT300 V2, created in conjunction with one of NB's all-time collaborative partners, J.Crew. This isn't the first time the two have tackled the silhouette, but it's definitely the coolest iteration to date. Done up in shades of gray, white, and navy, it's got the same vibe—chilled-out, toned-down, but still interesting and undeniably cool—that turned another smash-hit J.Crew collab (yes, I'm talking about the Nike Killshot 2) into a hot commodity that sold out with every subsequent release.

The good news this time around: The sneaker you'll want to wear all summer long isn't sold out. In fact, it's available in a full size run right this very moment for just 80 bucks.

To paraphrase a parent who really gets it: The New Balance x J.Crew CRT300 V2 isn't a regular dad shoe. It's a cool dad shoe. It's the sort of thing Pops would be happy to receive as a gift beneath the traditional Father's Day nacho-cheese fountain, but it's also the sort of thing his son could grab in his size and wear on days when he's not visiting the parents. You don't want to cramp dad's style, after all—just steal it.
