Bad Bunny is all about breaking down barriers, whether it's with his music or through his clothing. The Puerto Rican singer isn’t afraid to express himself, and yesterday, February 28, he made the choice to take a public stand that many are applauding across social media.
Last night, Bad Bunny performed "Ignorantes," a song off his new album, on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. And while the performance itself was as stellar as expected, it's the artist's choice of clothing that is getting attention.
Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, wore a bold graphic T-shirt that, when translated into English, read: "Alexa was killed. Not a man in a skirt." The statement tee is referring to a transgender woman who was killed earlier this week in Puerto Rico.
According to NBC News, Alexa — also known as Neulisa Luciano Ruiz — was murdered on Monday, February 24, after being reported for using the women's restroom at a McDonald's in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico. A video of Alexa being brutally shot has been populating social media since.
The incident clearly caught the attention of Bad Bunny, who ultimately decided to use his massive platform to draw attention to the situation and fans around the world are praising him for it.
"He speaks his mind and stands up for things when no one else does," commented one fan on Twitter. "I didn’t even know who bad bunny was before this but we have no choice but to stan this KING," another wrote. "Many reasons I love this man BUT this is the main one," a third user added.
Bad Bunny also chose to wear a skirt for the performance. In the past, he has been very vocal about dismantling gender norms. In 2018, he spoke out after a salon in Spain refused to give him a manicure.
It's clear that Bad Bunny not only understands the responsibility that comes with his platform but is using it in every way he can to bring attention to important issues. And we have no choice but to stan.
