When 28-year-old Kitty Tung attended the Backstreet Boys' Las Vegas show last month, she was already surprised when she learned that her boyfriend James Guan had scored her meet-and-greet passes. What a sweetie, right? But as it turns out, that wasn't the only surprise Guan had up his sleeve.
Once they got backstage, Guan told Tung that he was going to thank a security guard for the meet-and-greet passes he supposedly won. That, however, was a big fat lie! (We're sure Kitty forgives him...) Guan had actually bought the tickets himself in order to pull off the monumental moment and had really asked the security guard if he could pop the question in front of the BSB!
Guan and Tung were quickly shuffled to the front of the line to meet the band. "I can't imagine a life without your love and even forever don’t seem like long enough," said Guan, reciting the lyrics from the Backstreet Boys hit "Drowning." And as if right on cue, the Backstreet Boys joined in, serenading the surprised Tung with a six-part harmony!
"I started telling Kitty that she meant the world to me and that she was the best thing that has ever happened to me," Guan told Entertainment Tonight. "Then I started singing the lyrics from 'Drowning' and was planning to ask 'Will you marry me?' But BSB then started singing and I was totally shocked! It was the most amazing moment ever... Although my singing was off-key. I couldn't believe I was singing together with the Backstreet Boys and serenading Kitty!"
Guan then dropped to one knee and pulled out a ring. "I was in total disbelief when he got down on one knee," remembers Tung. "And when the Backstreet Boys started singing, I was trying to remain calm, but my heart was beating so fast. It was so surreal and I couldn't believe that the Backstreet Boys helped him pull this off. James has tried to surprise me before, but I was always able to figure out what he was planning. I had told my girlfriends that when the time came, I would know when James would propose, but he managed to surprise me and I was totally shocked!"
But in all that excitement, Tung forgot to say yes! "You did say 'yes,' right?" asked BSB AJ McLean. The bride-to-be gave her answer—which was yes, of course!—as the other fans in the room cheered and McLean pumped his fists in the air.
14-year-old us is so jealous right now. It goes without saying that when it comes to proposals, we definitely want it that way...
