The Bachelorette ’s Mike Johnson Suggests Producer Julie LaPlaca Would Make a Great ‘Future’ Lead
Bachelorette and Bachelor will-they-won't-they couples just keep popping up!
Remember way back in February (about five lifetimes ago), when Bachelor Nation was up in arms over rumors that Peter Weber was secretly dating a producer named Julie LaPlaca? While LaPlaca has officially shut those down, another member of the reality franchise family may have his eyes on the producer for real.
It all began on April 2, when LaPlaca took to Instagram to share a gorgeous photo of her life in self-isolation. She captioned the shot, "Me, all day every day right now."
The stunning snap garnered plenty of attention from LaPlaca's followers...including Bachelorette alumn Mike Johnson. Under the image, Johnson commented, “Damn! Are you a producer or the future bachelorette." He even added a rose emoji for good measure.
LaPlaca even responded, “I hear you’re the bachelor now?”
The Bachelorette fave replied to her comment, “lmfao yesterday only.” Not sure where this is going, but I'm loving this banter!
Johnson has a history with sliding into those Instagram comment sections. In case you forgot, Johnson had a short-lived fling with singer Demi Lovato after leaving little messages on her Instagram posts following his elimination from Hannah Brown's season.
In July 2019, before he left the show, Lovato had posted footage of Johnson on the Bachelorette to her Instagram Stories, writing in the caption, “Mike I accept your rose.” In the video she could reportedly be heard saying, “Swing me, kiss me! Boo boo." Just a few days later, he was sent home.
Johnson took to Twitter writing, “Jus saying, my future wife though girl you ready for smiles, adventure, comfort, growth, honesty, laughter, me falling using my inhaler and kissing your stretch marks and imperfections. Where u hiding.”
The two then had some major back-and-forths with likes and comments on Instagram and Twitter before allegedly taking it offline for some IRL dates. In September 2019, Johnson spoke out about the budding relationship. "I’m just getting to know Demi," he told E! "I think she’s absolutely fantastic, and I don’t want no pressure on her, no pressure on me—we’re just trying to get to know each other. That’s all.” Sadly, by October, the relationship was done.
Back to the present, though—maybe Johnson was flirting with LaPlaca with those comments or maybe this is just his personality. Or, a third option, what if this is all just a setup to have her become the next Bachelorette (after Clare Crawley's season, of course) and for Johnson to rejoin the cast? Either way, we're in.
