‘Bachelor’ Contestant Bekah Martinez’s Mom Reported Her Missing While She Was Filming the Show

Talk about major Bachelor drama — and not one related to a group date. It turns out that once filming for this season of The Bachelor began, contestant Bekah Martinez’s mom reported her daughter missing, and Martinez remained on a missing person’s list until earlier this week, when a Bachelor Nation fan pointed out to her local newspaper that Martinez has, in fact, been on the show and not missing at all.

Humboldt County, California’s North Coast Journal published a listing of missing persons earlier this week. The county has the highest rate of active missing persons reports in the state of California, and when they released their list, dubbed “The Humboldt 35,” they asked readers if anyone on the list looked familiar. Lo and behold, there was Martinez, as spotted by Amy Bonner O’Brien on the journal’s Facebook posting.

Public Information Officer Samantha Karges investigated the suggestion that the missing person was a contestant on the reality show. “Martinez had reportedly come to Humboldt County to work on a marijuana farm,” Karages told the NCJ in a statement. “Her mother hadn’t heard from her since November 12, 2017.”

For her part, Martinez is taking it in stride, jokingly tweeting to her mother the reminder that contestants on the show don’t get cellphone usage. “MOM. how many times do I have to tell you I don’t get cell service on The Bachelor??” she quipped, adding, “Honestly the scariest thing about this story is that my efforts to conceal The Worst Drivers License Photo Of All Time have been thwarted.”

Fans of the show commented on the Facebook page of the NCJ once the story broke, noting that Martinez has been active on social media in the last few weeks.

Whether Martinez’s mom just forgot or never knew her daughter was heading off to a reality show hasn’t actually been answered. We’re still waiting on that part of this weird puzzle.
