The first British people are starting to receive their brand new post-Brexit blue passports.

The Home Office announced on Tuesday that the new passport colour versions were finally being issued after stocks of the burberry passports, rolled out in 1988, ran out.

Danielle Hugman, 25, has revealed she's already got her hands on one - for her one-year-old daughter Willow-Rose.

Hugman applied for the passport in February and it arrived at her home in Suffolk, on Thursday.

The mum-of-three said she can't remember how she voted in 2016 and has "no idea what Brexit is about".

"I think it looks smarter, the picture page is now hard plastic so it is a little bit weirder." she said.

Hugman ordered passports for two of her children, Willow-Rose and Arabella.

Arabella's arrived first - and it bore the old burgundy colour - but when Willow-Rose's arrived three days later, it was in the Brexit blue.

The Government anticipated that the first new passports would be issued from the beginning of March, and by mid-2020 all new passports will be blue.

As well as the colour change, the back cover of the new passports will now feature embossed floral emblems of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Home Secretary Priti Patel said that by returning to the “iconic” blue and gold design, the passports will “once again be entwined with our national identity”.

She said: “Leaving the European Union gave us a unique opportunity to restore our national identity and forge a new path in the world.”

Hugman posted a picture of the new passport on Facebook and said nobody else has yet told her they've received their new one.

The family, including her husband Dominic, 31, intend to put the passports to good use soon.

"We've already booked to go to Turkey in May," she said, but added the coronavirus outbreak could derail their holiday plans.
