Awkwafina, née Nora Lum, isn't one to shy away from a statement. And increasingly, the rapper and actress is making beauty a vehicle for her bold self-expression.

Last night while hosting a rooftop HotelTonight party in Brooklyn, the 31-year-old star amped up the impact of her tiger print Rachel Comey short suit with a striking gilded eye. "I never want to make her look like everyone else in Hollywood," says makeup artist Matin, who eschewed traditionally glamorous smoky eyes and false lashes to make way for a more subversive makeup moment. "She lets me go with it!"

Adding loose gold glitter to Mehron Mixing Liquid, he used the bespoke pigment to etch on a pair of gleaming aureate cat-eye wings. Then, to keep the overall look "fresh" and "not too done," Matin enhanced her natural complexion with a soft wash of rouge on the cheeks and slick of pinky lip balm. Twinkling in the glow of the setting sun as she mingled with partygoers, Awkwafina's shimmering swoops were a perfect, gaze-punctuating touch, plus a surefire strategy to inject more sparkle into summer.
