The body of a pregnant Colorado woman who went missing on Monday with her two children has been found. Police say they believe her children's bodies will be found soon.
Shanann Watts, 34, Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3, went missing from their home on Monday. Shanann, who was 15-weeks pregnant with a boy, had just returned from a work trip in Arizona at 2 a.m. on Monday.
Her husband Chris Watts, 33, said Shanann was home when he left for work around 5 a.m. After not responding to calls and texts, a friend of Shannan's went to the home around 12 p.m. to look for her.
She was nowhere to be found.
Watts told reporters that he and Shanann got into an "emotional conversation" the morning before she disappeared. He said he just hoped that they were somewhere safe, so they could all come back home.
“It was tearing me apart last night,” he continued. “I want everybody to just come home. Wherever they’re at, just come home. That’s what I want.”
But late Wednesday night, Chris was charged with three counts of first-degree murder in connection to the disappearances of his family. He was also charged with three counts of tampering with physical evidence.
The family said in a statement that Chris confessed to the killings, and police said that family members encouraged him to turn himself in.
“It is with deep hurt, confusion and anger to confirm our beautiful cousin Shanann Watts, her unborn child, and her two angelic daughters, Bella (4), Celeste (3) were viciously murdered by husband Chris Watts; who confessed to the killings. Please keep Shanann’s parents and brother in your prayers,” a statement from the family reads.
On Thursday, police announced that Shanann's body was found on property owned by the company Chris worked for.
Their daughters' bodies have not been recovered, but police said they know where they are.
“This is absolutely the worst possible outcome that anyone could imagine,” said John Camper, the director of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. They did not speak of a possible motive for the murders.
Some say that Shanann's last Facebook post is eerie.
Shanann and Chris filed for bankruptcy in 2015, two years after they moved into their home in Frederick, Colorado. Court records show that they were $448,820 in debt, and their house was valued at $400,000.
Shanann's brother, Frankie Rzucek, posted an emotional message on Facebook.
“I just want to know why. My precious family my one and only sibling, my sister Shanann , 2 adorable nieces Bella and Celeste and her soon to be found out unborn son Niko. I just want 30 seconds alone with that heartless psychopath,” Rzucek wrote late Wednesday.
“The cops drug their feet. He was the only one with them and backed his truck into the garage. Doesn't take a genius to know who was suspect. My blood is boiling and the pain and anger and sadness I have in my heart.”
“Nothing absolutely nothing would get in my way of taking away his life like he did mine and my ENTIRE FAMILY.”
Chris Watts is scheduled to be back in court late Thursday.
