Audi dispatches 250 e-tron prototypes to Geneva streets
You don't necessarily need to be at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show to see the upcoming, all-new, all-electric Audi e-tron in the metal this week, but you'll still need to be in Geneva. The good thing is that you'd probably have a pretty good chance of seeing one, as Audi is dispatching 250 development e-trons to drive around town.
That reminds us how many development mules a car company usually has in their fleet, and how close the e-tron must be to the production version; the prototypes will travel more than 5 million kilometers total during their Geneva outing. Audi is asking car spotters to post their e-tron sightings on Instagram with the hashtag #etron, and some of them will be featured on Audi's e-tron page. The cars might also be lesser camouflaged than the mule spied in summer 2017, with signage reminding passers-by of the vehicle's electric propulsion.
The production e-tron is to be unveiled during the latter half of 2018, and there will almost certainly be e-trons at the IAA show in Frankfurt in the fall. The electric SUV is to have a 500-km (311-mile) range, and the 2015 concept produced nearly 500 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. In any case, the e-tron has the Tesla Model X and just-revealed Jaguar I-Pace to beat when it officially arrives.
