At the very least, Martin Scorsese wants you to watch The Irishman 'on a big iPad'

You may have heard – perhaps through the all-consuming social media commentary over the weekend – that The Irishman, Martin Scorsese's latest mob opus, is now on Netflix.

But please don't be tempted to watch it on your phone on the bus.

Though the streaming platform put up the cash for the veteran director's long-in-gestation epic, this is very much NOT how he wants you to see it.

Speaking to Rolling Stone critic Peter Travers on his Popcorn With Peter Travers show on YouTube, he said: “I would suggest, if you ever want to see one of my pictures, or most films, please, please don’t look at it on a phone, please.

“An iPad, a big iPad, maybe.”

Sadly, there is an overwhelming likelihood that the movie will have been watched on at least one phone this weekend. And maybe worse.

    Sorry, Marty.

Many movie buffs flocked to the streaming service this weekend to check it out, and though Scorsese probably doesn't want the movie's robust run-time to become the main point of discussion either, it's not escaped people that it lasts 209 minutes.

As such, some have begun providing some handy ways to turn the film into a mini-series.

iono who needs to see this but I do believe this is how I’ll watch the Irishman when I do it and it might help you too. Not sure who made it, but thank you for your service. pic.twitter.com/pcq8dGl6xO

    You're welcome.

The movie follows the story of Robert De Niro’s Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran, a mob hitman for the notorious Bufalino crime family.

It also stars Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Ray Romano, Bobby Cannavale, Anna Paquin, Stephen Graham, Stephanie Kurtzuba, Jesse Plemons and Harvey Keitel.
