As a former pro baker, trust me: Every home cook needs a silicone pastry brush, and these are down to $2 a pop

These versatile kitchen essentials have grid-like middles for holding more oils and sauces — get 'em for 50% off.

Not all kitchen tools are created equal — in fact, I'd go as far as saying the majority don't deserve the space they'd take up in my drawers. As a former professional baker turned shopping writer, I've used my fair share of cooking doodads, and one that's absolutely essential? A silicone pastry brush. It might look unassuming, but I reach for mine multiple times a week, whether I'm applying an egg wash over pastry dough, oiling my pans or saucing up proteins. Don't have one? I highly recommend changing that, stat — especially since these top-rated M Kitchen World Silicone Pastry Brushes are on major sale at Amazon.

This set features a waffled panel in the middle to better hold onto sauces and oils.

Why is it a good deal?

According to our trackers, this is the lowest price this set has seen since 2018. At just $4 a pair (that's 50% off), it's a no-brainer, especially when you consider how versatile these brushes are. (Note: The orange set is currently the cheapest, but you can also choose from black or green for a bit more.) Don't forget to apply the on-page coupon for the double discount.

Why do I need this?

Unlike fibrous pastry brushes, this silicone set won't shed its bristles into your food (yuck!) and is heat-resistant up to more than 400°F. You'll get one larger brush suited for slathering marinades, basting birds and greasing up the grill, as well as a smaller one to use for more detailed work, like coating pastries with egg washes and glazes. I also use mine to coat pans with a thin, even layer of butter or oil — the silicone is safe to use on all types of cookware.

What makes this pair stand out is the fact that the brushes have a unique grid-like panel in between the rows of bristles, allowing them to hold more sauces, oils and other liquids than similar tools. Plus, the silicone bristles detach from the handle, allowing for a more thorough cleaning — and they're even dishwasher-safe.

What reviewers say

I'm far from the only fan. These pastry brushes have garnered over 11,000 perfect ratings from Amazon shoppers.

"I actually prefer these to the natural bristle-type because these don't mind the high heat at all," explained one happy shopper. "I often use 'em to brush the oil in my frying pan for an even coating all over the bottom; I use so much less oil that way and food won't stick."

"The gridded portion in the middle helps hold onto more liquid so you don't have to dip back in as often," wrote another impressed buyer. "Love that they're fine to go through the dishwasher, since butter is such a pain to get off of things by hand."

"Wanted something that worked better than the bristle brushes to apply barbecue sauces," shared a final fan. "These work great and cleanup is extremely easy. Wish the handles were a couple inches longer when using them on the gas grill, but other than that I'm very impressed."

At this price, snag a pair for every home cook you know!

Oh, and if you need an oil mister, I swear by this one:

Unlike the oil misters of my past, the Flairosol doesn't require pumping: All you do is fill it with oil, screw the top on and pull the ergonomic lever to spray. Now I'm able to control the amount of oil I use — one spray is usually enough for my smaller pans, and two is ample for my larger ones — resulting in food that takes on nice color without sitting in a pool of grease.
