  • Arnold Schwarzenegger's dad made him do 200 sit-ups and push-ups every morning as a kid, he said.

  • He wasn't allowed to eat breakfast until he'd worked out, and this made exercise a daily routine.

  • Schwarzenegger said he is "addicted to working out every day."

Working out daily has been a solid routine for Arnold Schwarzenegger since he was a kid, when his dad made him exercise every morning.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the premiere of his action comedy series "FUBAR" on May 22, Schwarzenegger said this is why he doesn't consider himself disciplined — working out is just ingrained into his life.

"I remember when my father said, 'You cannot have breakfast first, you have to earn it. You have to do two hundred sit-ups and push-ups.' So that's how I grew up," Schwarzenegger, 75, said.

The bodybuilding legend and actor, who began lifting weights as a teenager in his native Austria, is "addicted to working out every day," he said.

"If I do a film, or like when I was doing 'FUBAR,' we were working out when we were night-shooting, we were working out at three in the morning sometimes, and at five in the morning, or at nine in the morning," Schwarzenegger said. "So it really doesn't matter. I just have to get my one-hour workout in and then some bike riding to kind of like get some cardiovascular training."

In July 2022, Schwarzenegger told Insider that he trains for up to 1.5 hours daily: cycling for 45 to 60 minutes, and lifting weights for 30 minutes.

His aim now is to maintain his muscle and health.

"It just makes you feel good, no matter what you do," Schwarzenegger told Entertainment Tonight. "If you do a TV series, if you do a movie, if you write a book, if you go and do a speech. Whatever you do, you need to feel fit and full of energy."
