For the premiere of The Last Movie Star, Ariel Winter took the film’s theme as sartorial inspiration.

Exuding old Hollywood glamour, the actress wore a floor-length gold beaded dress with a plunging neckline by Australian designer Steven Khalil. She paired the curve-hugging piece with a bold red lip and enhanced lashes. Ironically enough, even though she was dressed as a leading lady, Winter has a supporting role in the film.

Winter’s boyfriend of more than a year, Levi Madden, 30, accompanied her on the red carpet.

While the 20-year-old Modern Family actress often makes headlines for her wardrobe, much of which reveals her figure, she’s beginning to make a name for herself in her career outside of being outspoken about body positivity. Paper magazine notes this is Winter’s first opportunity to show that she “can really act, starring in her very first grown-up role,” and that she was cast in The Last Movie Star alongside Burt Reynolds because of her confidence.

“Ariel has carried the torch against body shaming more than anybody else her age,” screenwriter-director Adam Rifkin said. “I think it’s incredible that Ariel embraces exactly who she is and is so vocal about speaking out against body shamers. It was important to me that the role of Lil be a strong representation of powerful young women everywhere.”
