Ariana Grande for president?
The singer dropped the music video for “Positions”—the first song off her sixth studio album—on October 23, and it's mostly set at the White House…with Grande as POTUS. Honestly, we wouldn't be mad at that situation at all.
In the video you see Grande meeting with a very diverse (and mostly female) team, working in the Oval Office. walking her dogs on the White House lawn, awarding medals of honor, chilling in her bedroom, and even whipping up some food in the kitchen.
The lyrics are not necessarily overtly political, but they do appear to be about compromises in relationships. Grande sings, “Switching the positions for you / Cooking in the kitchen and I'm in the bedroom / I'm in the Olympics way I'm jumping through hoops / Know my love infinite nothing I wouldn't do / That I won't do, switching for you / This some shit that I / Usually don't do / But for you I kinda / Kinda want to / ’Cause you're down for me / And I'm down too."
Grande first announced the new album on Twitter on October 14, writing, “I can’t wait to give u my album this month.”
It's not surprising the singer opted for a political theme for her video. She is one of the most engaged celebrities when it comes to talking about the election and reminding her millions of fans about the importance of voting.
“A lot of things feel scary, dangerous and uncertain right now...but there are things within our control: voting, contacting lawmakers, and taking the census,” she wrote in May (and has the tweet pinned to the top of her feed). “The most important thing you can do right now to take the power back is become a voter and know when your next election [is].”
Fans, of course, are loving the song:
In the stressful days leading up to the November 3 election, we'll definitely have this video and President Grande on repeat.
