Ariana Grande Clearly Defines Her and Ricky Alvarez's Status Amid Dating Rumors
Ricky Alvarez, Ariana Grande's only ex who publicly responded to her inclusion of him in "Thank U, Next," got to spend a little time with her in New York City this past week. But just as fans started speculating that maybe she and Alvarez could be giving their romance a second go, Grande wrote a very clear message about their relationship status on Instagram.
Grande responded to a fan on one of Alvarez's photos of himself in Brooklyn who asked Alvarez what was happening between him and Grande. "We're friends everyone take a big ol breather," Grande wrote.

Grande suggested before that she and Alvarez were still pals in her "Thank U, Next" music video. On Alvarez's Burn Book page during the video's Mean Girls homage, Grande wrote, "Good times man," "great dancer" (Alvarez was one of Grande's backup dancers), and "friends forever."
Grande and Alvarez dated for one year, from July 2015 to July 2016; he was the guy who appeared in her controversial donut licking video with her. He also seemed to be the boyfriend that Grande's manager Scooter Braun did not particularly like.
Braun seemingly alluded to him when talking to Variety about when Grande fired him in February 2016 before later rehiring him. "With Ariana, I could have said a lot of stuff, and in fact my team wanted me to, because they were pissed," Braun started of that time before he was fired (and when she was dating Alvarez). "But I said 'We’re not gonna say a word, and this is gonna come back around.' They were like, 'Never take her back!,' but I just said 'Let’s stay quiet and let our truth be our actions.' And when sh*tty boyfriends leave, she starts to see the light on some stuff, and one day I got a phone call."
