Ariana Grande marked Father's Day this year by sharing an Instagram Story tribute to her dad Edward Butera, and giving everyone a rare glimpse at their relationship. Butera and Grande's relationship has been strained in past (Grande is very close with her mother Joan Grande, and her parents divorced in 2003 after getting married in 1992). But in her tribute to him this year, Grande shared a photo of them together at the Sweetener tour Miami concert with "foreva" written on it. Entertainment Tonight captured a screenshot and noted that Grande also posted the photo on her permanent grid two weeks ago with a "!" caption:

Grande spoke in 2014 about how the two's estrangement was the hardest thing that happened to her. "Falling out of touch with my dad [was the hardest thing]," she said. "It's private, but it happened last year. It took me so long to be okay with it. The thing that got me there was embracing the fact that that I am made up of half my dad, and a lot of my traits come from him. So much of me comes from my father, and for so long, I didn't like that about myself. I had to accept that it's okay not to get along with somebody and still love them."

Over the next couple years, the two grew closer again. In 2017, Grande shared a baby photo with him as her Father's Day tribute. "♡ Happy Father's Day ♡ 😌 I love you," she wrote.

And Butera, whose Twitter bio says "Ariana’s Daddy," wrote about how proud he was of his daughter on June 2. "What a great show," he tweeted after her Sweetener concert that he attended. "Very proud of you and hope you get to rest." Most of the recent tweets on his account are about her and how he thinks the world of her.
