Rebellion has never looked so chic, thanks to strong-willed Aquariuses. Ruling the calendar from January 20 through February 19, the 11th sign of the zodiac takes charge of the new year with gusto, poised to stir up positive change within their circles. “Aquarius is the rule breaker and rule maker of the zodiac, mostly because they want to use their innovative mindsets to advance the world,” says astrologer Lisa Stardust. “They always walk to the beat of their own drum, never adhering to the group. They are the OG rebels and punks who make up their own rules.”

Known as the humanitarians of the zodiac, Aquarians use their envelope-pushing behavior only for good. They are commonly mistaken as a water sign because they’re represented by the water bearer, which depicts a jug overflowing with streams of water that will pour life-giving energy into the world. However, an Aquarius’s expressive nature feels much more at home with their fellow air signs (Geminis and Libras), as they are pros at summoning the winds of change for social causes they believe in. “Their modern planetary ruler is Uranus, who is rebellious. Their traditional ruler is Saturn, who is open to societal growth,” Stardust adds.

An Aquarius’s rule-breaking and rule-making spirit lends to creative thinking and nonconformist style. For this sign’s floral horoscope (or as we like to call it, “Floriscope”), Birmingham-based florist Mark Thompson conjured Aquariuses’s boldness for a unique, statement-making design. According to Stardust, violets characterize this sign’s humanity and creativity. Magenta orchid blooms, delicate fronds of maidenhair fern, and purple, yellow, and pink pansies are unexpected additions in a cut-flower arrangement; these vibrant additions symbolize an imaginative Aquarius’s out-of-the-box ideas. Grounding the arrangement, a marbleized container celebrates the sign’s free-spirited nature that’s eager to spark growth and change.
