Musicians lined up to pay tribute to Glen Campbell on Tuesday after the superstar entertainer died at the age of 81.

Campbell's family said the singer died on Tuesday morning in Nashville.

No cause of death was immediately given. Campbell announced in June 2011 that he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and that it was in its early stages at that time.

Tributes poured in on social media.

One of Campbell's daughters, Ashley, said she was heartbroken. "I owe him everything I am, and everything I ever will be. He will be remembered so well and with so much love," she wrote on Twitter.

Brian Wilson, of the Beach Boys, said he was "very broken up" on hearing the news.

"An incredible musician and an even better person. I'm at a loss. Love & Mercy," Wilson wrote on Twitter.

Dolly Parton, via video statement, was among the first to pay tribute to Campbell

"Well Glen Campbell was special because he was so gifted. Glen is one of the greatest voices there ever was in the business. And he was one of the greatest musicians. He was a wonderful session musician as well, a lot of people don't realize that. But he could play anything and he could play it really well. So he was just extremely talented."

From Peter Frampton to Carole King, a string of musicians hailed Campbell for his contribution.

A number of politicians also hailed Campbell's legacy.
