Statement floors are having a major moment right now, but colorful, encaustic tiles tend to come with a hefty price tag. Sure, The Home Depot and Overstock.com offer affordable options, but we're loving this blogger's budget-savvy solution. Using custom stencils, Jess McGurn of Bright Green Door hand-painted her existing, dated tile to look like a stunning cement style she spotted.
Looking at the "after" photos, you'd never guess that pattern was actually painted on. But sure enough, check out the "before":
"It wasn't horrendous, but it also wasn't my style," McGurn wrote. So, she started by rolling out a coat of slate-black paint. Then, she ordered a custom stencil and went to work!
As you can imagine, it took a while. "This was the SLOW painstaking work where I listened to every podcast under the sun," McGurn wrote.
Finally, she "sealed it like crazy"-we're talking a total of six times. But boy, was it worth it. Just look at those gorgeous floors!
The whole thing came together for about $250, including three cans of paint ($105), four custom stencils ($100), and one can of matte poly sealer ($45).
But these stunning statement floors? Priceless.
