Klark Kent: " We changed how United States senators are elected." Possibly the worst Amendment (17th) to the Constitution, along with the 16th, which allowed the federal income tax. Those two Amendments fundamentally transformed our country from a limited, federal government, into a national unlimited government. Worse, the 17th Amendment also made political parties even more important and powerful than they already were. When U.S. Senators were appointed by the State Legislatures, the political parties didn't have as much of a say as to who would run and how their campaigns were funded. There's a reason why only the Senate confirms the President's Cabinet members and ratifies treaties and it's because they were not supposed to be so political as they are today.
