After spending almost a month in a Swedish jail, A$AP Rocky has been released and is speaking out on the experience for the first time. Rocky posted a photo to Instagram to thank his fans and supporters on Friday.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of my fans, friends and anyone across the globe who supported me during these last few weeks. I can’t begin to describe how grateful I am for all of you,” he wrote. “This has been a very difficult and humbling experience,” he continued. “I want to thank the court for allowing me, Bladi and Thoto to return to our family and friends. Thanks again for all of the love and support.”
Rocky had been in jail since July 2 after he was arrested on assault charges in Stockholm following an altercation with 19-year-old Mustafa Jafari. On Friday he went to court where he pleaded not guilty and was released until the judge announces his ruling on August 14.
“Things got a little weird. We thought that the behavior of these guys was strange, it got a bit scary,” he told the court, claiming that Jafari and his friends had been following him and his entourage. “At this point we are really scared. I saw my security guard being cut, bleeding. We didn’t know what to expect with these strangers—I’m not from Sweden, so it was really scary. I wanted to go straight to the hotel for safety. I didn’t want this to happen.”
Rocky has gotten support from his famous friends, including Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, who brought the case to the attention of the White House.
“Thank you @realDonaldTrump , @SecPompeo, Jared Kushner & everyone involved with the efforts to Free ASAP Rocky & his two friends,” Kardashian wrote on Twitter earlier this month. Kardashian reportedly reached out to Jared Kushner about Rocky’s situation who then informed Donald Trump. Trump then urged the State Department to get involved.
Trump sent Presidential Hostage Affairs Envoy Robert C. O’Brien to Sweden to attend the trial this week. While Rocky did not personally thank Trump in his post, Trump tweeted his support for the rapper following Rocky’s release.
“A$AP Rocky released from prison and on his way home to the United States from Sweden. It was a Rocky Week, get home ASAP A$AP!”
