Anthony Vaccarello Puts Pause on Namesake Label to Focus on Saint Laurent

Before Anthony Vaccarello was named the new creative director of Yves Saint Laurent in April, the 33-year-old Belgian designer helmed Versus Versace, which he has since departed, as well as his own eponymous label. In addition to leaving Versus, it appears that Vaccarello also will be parting ways with his namesake brand, too.

“This adventure has been amazing but I now feel the need to fully focus on this new project,” Vaccarello said in a statement. He also thanked those who have supported his brand since its launch in 2008.

Prior to joining YSL, Vaccarello spent time at Versus Versace, where he was named a guest designer in December 2013 and then later the brand’s creative director in January 2015. During that time, he also focused on his own label of sexy designs that featured plunging necklines, midriff cut-outs and asymmetrical hemlines, which were favored by Jennifer Lopez, Ciara, Gisele and Alessandra Ambrosio on the red carpet.

Although he won’t be showing his eponymous label at Paris Fashion Week anymore, the designer will still be on the calendar this season - only with YSL instead. Vaccarello, who succeeds Hedi Slimane, will present his first collection for the French fashion house on the first day of PFW (Tuesday, Sept. 27) for the spring 2017 season.

In June, Vaccarello teased his first campaign for Saint Laurent. However, the ads didn’t feature many clothes, keeping folks even more on the edge of their seats as they wait to see what the creative has to bring to one of the industry’s most renowned fashion houses.
