Ansel Elgort Denies Allegations Claiming He Sexually Assaulted a 17-Year-Old Girl

Ansel Elgort is responding to allegations of sexual assault in a statement shared to Instagram.

On Friday, in a since-deleted Twitter post, a user by the name of Gabby claimed that the actor had sexually assaulted her when she was only 17 years old back in 2014. Gabby also alleges that Ansel solicited nude photos and "asked to have a threesome with me and one of my 'dance friends'" who was also reportedly underage.

Gabby's account appears to be deactivated, but screenshots of her accusations have been reposted on social media. She detailed the alleged encounter, writing: "When it happened instead of asking me if I wanted to stop having sex knowing it was my first time and I was sobbing in pain and I didn't want to do it the only words that came out of his mouth were 'we need to break you in.'"

The following day, Ansel addressed the allegations, denying the assault entirely. "I was distressed to see the social media posts about me that have been circulating in the past 24 hours," he began. "I cannot claim to understand Gabby’s feelings but her description of events is simply not what happened. I have never and would never assault anyone."

He continued, "What is true is that in New York in 2014, when I was 20, Gabby and I had a brief, legal and entirely consensual relationship. Unfortunately, I did not handle the breakup well. I stopped responding to her, which is an immature and cruel thing to do to someone. I know this belated apology does not absolve me of my unacceptable behavior when I disappeared.”

Before ending his note, Ansel said that he is "disgusted" and "deeply ashamed" by his past behavior, adding: "I am truly sorry. I know I must continue to reflect, learn, and work to grow in empathy."

Six years after the alleged incident, Gabby says she suffers from PTSD and panic attacks, and didn't tell anyone at first because Ansel told her "it could 'ruin his career.'" But now, she claims she's ready to talk about it. "I just want to heal and I want to tell other girls who have been through the same sh—t as me, you’re not alone,” she wrote.
