Following her car accident, Anne Heche was declared brain dead on Friday.

Anne Heche's eldest son has spoken out in the wake of his mother's heartbreaking death.

Heche's rep confirmed her death on Friday, revealing that the Emmy-winning actress was declared brain dead on Friday, August 12, after sustaining fatal injuries as a result of a fiery car crash in Los Angeles last week. The Men in Trees actress, though legally dead according to California law, is still on life support to preserve her organs for potential donation. She was 53.

Her 20-year-old son, Homer, shared an emotional statement with People on Friday, reacting to the devastating news about his mother.

"My brother Atlas and I lost our mom," he stated. "After six days of almost unbelievable emotional swings, I am left with a deep, wordless sadness. Hopefully my mom is free from pain and beginning to explore what I like to imagine as her eternal freedom."

He then thanked the "thousands of friends, family, and fans [who] made their hearts known to [him]," expressing his gratitude. "I am grateful for their love, as I am for the support of my Dad, Coley, and my stepmom Alexi who continue to be my rock during this time."

He then addressed his mother directly, adding, "Rest In Peace Mom, I love you."

In the wake of the Seven Days Seven Nights star's death, a resurfaced video interview from 2017 has been circling around, where Heche revealed what she wanted people to remember about her after she died.

In the clip, Heche said that she would want people to say "that I've made my children happy. And gave them a life that they love," as Parade reported.

Heche shared her son Homer with ex Coley Laffoon and 13-year-old son Atlas with ex James Tupper.
