Animal rights activists are always in attendance at London Fashion Week. And this season, protesters have worked hard to ensure their message is clear.

Earlier today, PETA staged a demonstration before the five-day fashion event kicked off. A trio of protesters donned vegan faux leather dresses and skeleton-inspired make-up with placards bearing the words ‘Leather is dead’ in their clasp.

“For every leather jacket or bag, a sensitive cow endures a miserable life and a terrifying death,” says PETA Director Elisa Allen. “PETA is calling on designers, buyers, and shoppers to join the vegan fashion revolution and kick animal skins to the kerb.”

Later this afternoon, a group of protesters crowded outside the Boru Aksu show chanting, ‘Shame, shame, shame on London Fashion Week.’ The demonstration was also accompanied by loud recordings of animal squeals and graphic placards.

According to PETA, more than a billion animals are killed for leather every year under awful conditions that include extreme crowding and deprivation. Some also undergo procedures such as castration and dehorning without any painkillers.

It is likely the protests will continue, as activists strongly oppose the use of animal skins, furs and feathers at the event.
