Angry Predators fan spends $140 to ship dead catfish to NHL office over disallowed goal
On Tuesday, the Nashville Predators thought they had scored a game-tying goal in the final second of regulation against the Florida Panthers.
But after review, Flip Forsberg’s goal with 0.6 seconds remaining was disallowed due to goalie interference. Panthers win, 2-1.
It was a controversial call. Predators players were upset. Carrie Underwood was “livid.”

And one Predators fan got so mad she decided to drop more than $140 to let the NHL know about it.
Per The Tennessean, Briley Meeks spent $141.75 to buy and ship a dead catfish from Goodlettsville, Tenn. to Toronto to express her displeasure with the call. For those not familiar with Predators tradition, dead catfish are thrown on the ice in Nashville as a means of celebration.
Why so much? Meeks told local media personality Justin Bradford that she spent $7.25 on the catfish and $134.50 on international overnight shipping to Toronto. And per her Facebook post, she appeared to have been thoughtful enough to pack the fish a large cooler filled with ice. Because shipping a dead animal intended as food without ice on three-day shipping would be uncivil, right?
So what prompted the fish delivery? Meeks told the Tennessean she got the idea from a conversation on the Predators fan Facebook page about pranking the NHL office with a catfish.
“I decided I needed to be that someone,” she texted. “I am a huge practical joke person and I feel like this was the ultimate prank.”
She does not regret the cost.
“It was worth every penny! I feel like my Preds were robbed and the look on their faces last night when Toronto overturned that goal broke my heart!”
