The actress made a rare comment about her daughter in an interview.

Angelina Jolie says her 14-year-old daughter Shiloh Jolie-Pitt was one of her main influences for her latest role in the film The One and Only Ivan.

Jolie made a virtual interview appearance with Entertainment Tonight this week, wearing a black off-the-shoulder dress, to discuss the movie.

"Well, Shiloh years ago told me that she had read a book that she loved and she wanted me to read it," she said of the project. "I read it on my own and then we looked at some of it together and we talked about why she loved it. Then, I inquired if it was being made — as you do — into a film, and I found out that it was kinda in the works but kinda hadn't [been] figured out."

The movie, based on the book of the same name by K. A. Applegate, was inspired by the true story of a gorilla named Ivan who was kept in a cage for over 20 years, and learned to express himself through painting.

Jolie, who also serves as a producer on the film, added that she "tried to stay with [the movie]," as it moved through the development process, and her "main focus" was to "push it to stay as true to the book as possible."

"It's a very special story," she said. "It's an important true story and I think that resonates with all of us."

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, Jolie has been isolating at home with her six children. "We're all locked in, we're doing all right," she told an interviewer back in April.

A source told E! News in March that the Jolie-Pitt children have been "keeping up with their schoolwork, practicing their languages, playing instruments, board games, and helping cook dinner" while self-isolating.
