It’s back to school time for everyone, which means cute photos and emotional goodbyes — especially when it comes to first-time college drop-offs. The latest example: Angelina Jolie dropped off her son Maddox at college and the photos have us very near tears. The college freshman, who just celebrated his 18th birthday, will be attending school in South Korea to study biochemistry.

Maddox arrived at Yonsei University in Seoul with mom Jolie right by his side. Photos of the mother-son pair show the two walking around the campus and touring one of the buildings. A source shared with People that the eldest of the Jolie-Pitt children has his sights on the sciences and chose Yonsei University out of a few other options. “He got accepted to other universities but choose Yonsei,” the source shared with the outlet. “He has been studying Korean language. He has lessons multiple times a week to prepare.”

While Seoul is far from his American home, Maddox will still be relatively close to his family’s home in Cambodia. “He’s very close to his siblings and they all hope to visit,” the insider shared, discussing Maddox’s close bond with siblings Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13, and 11-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. The kids became extremely close in the last few years following their parents’ highly publicized divorce.

Yonsei University is regarded as one of the best schools in South Korea, and is home to more than 19,000 undergraduate students. While the milestone moment was emotional for the Maleficent actress, Jolie was nothing but proud of her eldest. “I look forward to all he will do,” the actress said.
