Andie MacDowell Reveals the $7 Hair Conditioner She Uses to Keep Her Gray Hair Looking Great

Andie MacDowell doesn’t regret debuting her natural gray hair earlier this year—in fact, she thinks it’s “badass.”
“Honestly, it’s exhausting to have to be something that you no longer are,” the Maid actress told Interview Magazine. “You know what? I’m not young. And I’m okay with that.”
MacDowell, 63, says she uses L’Oréal Paris EverPure Brass Toning Purple Conditioner to keep her hair as healthy as possible.
Ever since Andie MacDowell revealed her natural gray hair to the world earlier this year, she’s been more outspoken than ever about feeling comfortable in her own skin. Now, she’s being even more candid about getting older—and feeling beautiful at every age.
“I think it’s badass to embrace where you are [in life] and be fearless,” the Groundhog Day star, 63, told InStyle last week. “That is exactly what I am doing. I am stepping right into where I am with no shame, and it feels good.”
MacDowell first shared a glimpse of her natural color early this year, but she caught the world’s attention by proudly showing off her gray locks on the red carpet of the 2021 Cannes Film Festival in July. “It was really important to me because my transformation helped me accept my authentic, true self,” she continued.

Up until that point, MacDowell had colored her hair—but she finally reached a breaking point, despite her managers telling her not to reveal her salt-and-pepper hair. “The age on my face, to me, no longer matched. I somehow feel like I look younger because it looks more natural,” she told Vogue at the time. “I said, ‘I think you’re wrong, and I’m going to be more powerful if I embrace where I am right now.”
“I feel better like this. Honestly, it’s exhausting to have to be something that you no longer are,” the Maid actress said in a conversation with Michael Keaton for Interview Magazine this week. “I was finally like, ‘You know what? I’m not young. And I’m OK with that.’”
Just don’t say she’s embracing her natural hair color. “I hate the word ’embrace,’ because it always sounds like you’re having to accept something, and I don’t feel like that,” MacDowell continued. “We’re beautiful at every age and glorious in our own way, and we have so much to offer. I feel so much more comfortable. It’s like I’ve taken a mask off or something.”
Now, the actress is focused on keeping her hair as happy and healthy as possible. “I dump buckets of conditioner on my hair. I don’t even shampoo, which I would not suggest to anyone without curly hair,” she told InStyle. “I use the L’Oréal Paris EverPure Brass Toning Purple Conditioner, because silver hair can get kind of yellow. “In the past, it has been normal and acceptable [for society] to cut women off at age 40,” she continued. “We do have something unique to offer. You can’t be young forever, but you can always be considered beautiful, fashionable, and glamorous.”
