It’s an exciting day for Hallmark fans—news just broke that a network veteran (and beloved actress, in general) is making her return to the channel. Get ready: According to Deadline, Andie MacDowell will star in Hallmark’s upcoming primetime drama, The Way Home.

The family-centered story will follow three generations of women, MacDowell playing matriarch Del Landry. But there’s a catch: Del and her daughter, Kat, have been estranged for 20 years after a tragedy tainted their relationship. The show details their rocky reunion and how together—along with Kat’s 15-year-old daughter, Alice, whom Del has never met—they uncover the ability to time travel and discover some surprising things about their family’s past.

“We’ve found our perfect Del Landry in Andie MacDowell,” Lisa Hamilton Daly, executive vice president of programming for Hallmark’s parent company, Crown Media Family Networks, said in a statement. “It was crucial to cast someone with the ability to handle the nuances and depth of the role and we can’t wait to see her bring Del to life.”

As someone who has played a multitude of layered roles—including her recent award-winning portrayal of a free-spirited mother with untreated bipolar disorder in MaidMacDowell is sure to offer a touching performance. She’s also a complex person in her own right, having taken Hollywood by storm as an accidental leading lady in the pro-aging and natural gray hair movement.

“I’m 64, and this is the time of my life,” she recently told People. “Eventually, I’m going to be silver. And I wanted to have this experience of feeling what it is.” She continued, adding that “aging is a really, really intimate educator on loving yourself.”

Longtime Hallmark fans will know that MacDowell is quite the network legend, having starred in its first original primetime series Cedar Cove as municipal court judge Olivia Lockhart from 2013 to 2015. “We couldn’t be happier to welcome her home to Hallmark Channel and we know our fans will fall in love with her all over again,” added Laurie Ferneau, senior vice president of development at Crown Media.

MacDowell herself hasn’t publicly said much about the role just yet. However, she did re-share the news on her Instagram Story, simply writing, “#Gratitude.”

According to Deadline, the series started production this summer and is set to release next year. Further cast announcements are expected to surface in the coming weeks. The Way Home marks the first original series to get a pickup at Hallmark since 2016.

We can’t wait to see more of MacDowell on screen!
