Ana de Armas' 2023 Oscars Gown Would Make Marilyn Monroe Proud
The 'Blonde' actress dazzled while walking the red carpet at the 95th Academy Awards.
Ana de Armas is a Hollywood legend in the making.
On March 12, the 34-year-old actress, who was nominated for Best Actress for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in Blonde, made a splash on the 2023 Oscars red carpet. How? Well, the Knives Out alum wore a metallic-colored gown covered in sequins that rivaled some of the best looks donned by Monroe.
While de Armas is clearly heading to the A-list status, she noted to the Hollywood Reporter in March, "It was against all odds that a Cuban actress was ever going to play Marilyn Monroe."
"I was like, 'I really have to do this, for myself,'" she continued. "This is a gift to me. I have to take advantage of it.'"
As for the mixed reaction to Blonde, which takes creative liberties in retelling Monroe's life, de Armas knew exactly what she was signing up for.
"It was shocking," she said of reading the script the first time. "I remember telling [director Andrew Dominik] when we met after I’d read the script that it felt like a horror movie to me. He agreed with that."
Though de Armas' red carpet look was worthy of an award, she wasn't necessarily a shoo-in for one of the top prizes. Heading into the 95th Academy Awards, de Armas was nominated against Everything Everywhere All at Once's Michelle Yeoh, The Fabelmans' Michelle Williams, To Leslie's Andrea Riseborough, and Tár's Cate Blanchett.
