Amtrak Is Having a Major Sale on Long-distance Routes

For three days, Amtrak is discounting some of their long-distance tickets by 60 percent, making it even easier to plan that last-minute fall rail getaway.

Purchase a ticket this week from November 5-7 for travel valid on November 11-24 and enjoy the best that slow rail travel has to offer, journeying through the countryside to places up and down the coasts. The offer is valid for 15 different routes, has no blackout dates and has tickets as low as $29 (so you have no excuse not to plan a great spur of the moment vacation).

"Traveling on one of our trains has never been just about the destination - the journey is part of the adventure," Amtrak President and CEO Richard Anderson told Travel + Leisure on Tuesday. “With more than 500 destinations nationwide, customers can witness some of the best sightseeing opportunities the United States has to offer while traveling with ease to family, friends and loved ones.”

Travel on the Coast Starlight route from which you can visit the red barn where Boeing first started making airplanes in 1916 at The Museum of Flight in Seattle or head to Santa Barbara where you can take advantage of its great wine country.

Hop on the Silver Service route to soak up the still-warm weather in Miami or get your adrenaline fix at the new Tidal Cove water park with its 60-foot tall slide tower. Later, take the train up to Charleston (which T+L readers ranked the No. 1 city in the U.S. for the seventh year in a row) where you can indulge on southern favorites like biscuits with sausage gravy and deviled eggs.

The offer is valid for adult coach seats only and no upgrades are allowed on the seats, but customers are allowed checked and carry-on baggage and you never have to turn your phone on airplane mode.
