Twitter Is Tearing Its Hair Out While Waiting on Nevada’s Election Results

Are you counting down the days for the presidential election to be over? Has waiting for election results felt reminiscent of waiting for Rihanna to drop new music? Does the prospect of another four years of an elderly white man running the country give you gastric distress? You're not alone.

Twitter is coping with the stress of the Donald Trump–Joe Biden face-off appropriately: with election fatigue memes. In other words, expect to find many people on your timeline expressing themselves solely through, say, Ben Affleck–smoking photos or the entr'acte of Les Misérables.

Is election fatigue even a real thing though? The data points to a resounding yes. The Pew Research Center, for instance, found that about two-thirds of all Americans were feeling worn out by the news cycle, according to a late-2019 survey of more than 12,000 U.S. adults (a high percentage considering this was before even the worst of the 2020 headlines hit). And, in 2016, the Pew Research Center had again found that about six out of 10 Americans (or about 59 percent) felt exhausted by the amount of coverage and media attention the election (then, between Trump and Hillary Clinton) was receiving.

The same may be said for this year's presidential election, especially now that we're more online than ever. Every vacuum on the Internet seems to suck in voter registration campaigns, sound bites from Trump rallies, the latest celebrity Biden endorsement, and hot takes on Kamala Harris's choice of shoes.

Now, as we head into the homestretch of the 2020 electoral season (and as we await the results from the highly contested battlegrounds of Nevada, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona, and North Carolina), here are the best tweets that are getting us across the finish line.
