According to Lucie, the last couple of months, the blues musician has been lacking energy, which forced him to cancel shows. Despite taking him to the hospital and to doctors, his illness remains a mystery.

She continued: “On Memorial Day, he was looking increasingly sickly. All of a sudden, he couldn’t walk, couldn’t lift his head. He couldn’t respond to me immediately when I would ask him things. He really was fuzzy, so I rushed him to the ER because I felt something was really wrong, like he was having a stroke.”

Luckily, that wasn’t the case, but things still got worse.

“Whatever was going on in his body from toxins, I guess, they were going to his brain, and he started talking gibberish. All of a sudden, physical tremors were setting in, his blood pressure was skyrocketing. He became really agitated with the medicine he was given, and they had to put him in ICU.”

Michael has been in ICU ever since and to prevent a stroke, he was put on a ventilator and heavily sedated.

“The good news is that the doctors were finally able to remove the ventilator today and he is breathing on his own, so he is doing good. However, due to the last week, his body went through a lot and they do still have him sedated.”

Lucie added that while he has taken a turn for the better, it’s going to be a while until he is able to perform again, especially since he currently has no voice and will have to undergo vocal cord repair prior to returning to singing as a result of the time he spent on the ventilator. As a result, his June shows have been cancelled, as has his Fourth of July concert. Past that, Lucie doesn't want to predict at present time, trying to remain hopeful.

Michael’s AGT win in 2010 came as a surprise when he beat out then 10-year-old opera singer Jackie Evancho. But he had a heartfelt story, which may have won America to vote for him. His grandparents had lost their home during Hurricane Katrina and he wanted to win the prize money in order to buy them a new residence.
