American Women Are (Too) Loyal to Their Bras

A study done by UK lingerie brand Rigby & Peller reveals that American women are loyal to a fault — to their bras. The brand surveyed 2,000 women 18 and older about their lingerie wearing habits and found that 67 percent of American women wear the same bra every day. It also found that 30 percent of women have a bra they’ve owned for 10 years.

So what’s the problem? Our habits aren’t exactly what’s best for us or our bras. Lingerie experts say that you should give your bra at least a day to breathe after you wear it. As Freshpair’s Bobbie Smith told the Huffington Post, “Letting a bra rest at least one day in between wear will help the elastic regain its strength.” She also mentions that one bra should last around eight months, which is why women should buy multiple bras. So holding onto your bra for 10 years might make you a loyal gal, but you’re not doing your boobs any favors.

The survey also showed that American women strongly value comfort over beauty when it comes to lingerie, with 92 percent saying they would trade style for comfort some of the time. Eighty percent said they would rather wear a comfy old, gray bra than a flashy, uncomfortable one.
