Colin Stough may have not won the latest season of American Idol, but the up-and-coming musician just announced the first steps in his blossoming career.

On May 21, the 18-year-old country singer placed third in the ABC competition series behind runner-up Megan Danielle and winner Iam Tongi. But ahead of the highly-anticipated 2023 season finale, Colin shared his exciting plans to release his first single. Titled "I Still Talk to Jesus," he revealed that the song held personal significance as he ended his road on TV.

"'I Still Talk to Jesus' will be hitting all music platforms tonight at midnight y'all go give it a listen," he wrote on TikTok on May 18. "This song hits me deep. Everyone in life at some point feels like there's no one to talk to [etc] but just know the real king is always there ❤️ love y'all happy Thursday."

Because Colin continued to gain popularity throughout his time on the show, American Idol fans rushed to his side to congratulate him on his next phase as a country artist. "Just waiting on that album to drop 💙♥️," one person wrote in the TikTok comments section. "I’ve [listened] to this in repeat today!!! I love it!!" a different fan raved. "Don’t worry buddy [you] already won in all our eyes 🤙🏻," another user declared.

As for Colin's feelings about releasing the sentimental tune, he elaborated on it in another TikTok posted a day later. Showing off a new video for the song, he explained that he intended the track to let listeners know that there's always someone there for them.

"I can’t believe I’m watching my first official visualizer on youtube right now, this is such a wild moment," he captioned the clip. "In this generation and in this world, it’s really hard to feel heard or understood, but this song is a reminder that you will always have that one source that is always with you. I’d appreciate it if you went and watched it if you have a sec, because a lot of hard work went into making this."

While "I Still Talk to Jesus" is currently getting airtime, the Mississippi native's fans know this isn't the first time he has unveiled original music. While he was in the thick of starring on American Idol, Colin put out a tune titled "Bad Day" for his followers to listen to ahead of the live shows. What's more, he made a mark on the series with his renditions of Alanis Morissette's "Hand in My Pocket" and Keith Urban's "Stupid Boy."

We can't wait to see where you go next, Colin!
