- Season 18 of American Idol is underway and fans are already unhappy about the results.
- Contestant Doug Kiker was eliminated during Hollywood Week and people think the judges made a mistake.
When Doug Kiker first stepped in front of the judges, he candidly admitted that he had never heard of vocal range, didn't know what it meant to warm up, and, other than singing on the back of a dump truck, had "no experience whatsoever."
After the judges unanimously agreed to send Doug to Hollywood, he showed up ready to give it his all.
"This opportunity, it means more than you could possibly imagine. Now I'm about to perform on a stage for the first time," Doug said before his second audition. "This is getting real, real quick. I just don't wanna let my family down. I want the judges to give me a chance. I hope that I deserve a chance."
The hopeful artist delivered a unique rendition of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," but the judges were left uncertain about his ability to continue in the competition.
Luke acknowledged that Doug "has trouble with staying in the key," and Lionel agreed it seemed difficult for him to sing without direction.
"I love him, but I'm just not sure," Katy admitted.
In the end, Doug was eliminated—and fans had a lot to say about it.
The judges knew Doug’s weaknesses. They told him be ready to be molded. 200 Million views of his audition! 200 Million people can’t be wrong. I’m so livid Doug was cut. Please Doug start a podcast show and sing for us. #GarbageMan #AmericanIdol— Gina (@GinaDonofrio66) March 17, 2020

I think American Idol was tripping when they sent Doug home tonight. You’re there to also inspire and not just be judges. Should have given him one more shot and some lessons. Damn people where is ur heart. #americanidol #AmericanIdol— Tammie M (@TammieM13) March 17, 2020

Others agreed they should have given Doug "one more shot" and believed he could have benefited from some training—which is what they promised to give him during his audition.
Despite the disappointing outcome, Doug remained positive.
"It was definitely an amazing experience. A lot of firsts happened since I started American Idol," he said after being cut from the show. "Thank you for that."
